How To Remove Glitter Nail Polish

Hey everyone!

Today’s quick tip is on how to easily remove glitter nail polish. I recently painted my nails using a glitter top coat and usually once it chips I can’t help but pick the rest off instead of using remover. Doing that is so bad for your nails. You’re not only picking the nail polish off, you’re also peeling a layer of your nail off! That’s not good. I’m a picker though and sometimes I just can’t help it.

The way I did my nails kind of reminds me of Cinderella, which is kind of fitting since the movie just came out. I used Ulta brand base coat and top coat and then sinful colors in “sail la vie” and “queen of beauty”.

So since glitter nail polish is so difficult to take off, I thought I’d show you an easy way to remove it. There are actually two ways you can do this. Both ways are not damaging to your nails at all. So don’t be afraid to try it next time you have glittery nails.

What you will need for the first way:

  • Nail Polish remover
  • Cotton Balls or Cotton Rounds
  • Foil

What you do is first tear pieces of foil to fit around your finger. Then soak a cotton ball or round with the remover. Now if you aren’t using acetone nail polish remover, this is going to take a little longer. So once cotton is soaked, you just place it on top of your nail, then wrap your finger with the foil and let it sit for a couple of minutes. You can do one hand at time but if you do all your fingers, usually by the time you are finished with your last finger the first one is done.

Once you’re ready to remove the foil, the best way to do so is one at a time. Unwrap the foil then give the cotton a little rub then remove the cotton. That should be all it takes to remove the glitter polish!

The second way of doing this is instead of using foil, you can use tape. Some people have a hard time getting the foil to hold the cotton down. So you do the same steps as the first way and when you are ready to put the tape on, start near your cuticle and wrap strips of tape around your finger holding the cotton in place. Keep in mind though that using tape and acetone remover, the remover will sort of “eat” the tape or melt it. So after a couple of minutes, again if doing all fingers the first one should be ready by the time you are done wrapping the last one.

So when ready, give your nail a little rub with the cotton if you can, and then slide the tape and cotton off your nail. If you have some tape residue left behind on your finger you can just take another cotton ball and put some remover on it and rub your finger with it and it should take it all off. Remember that if you are using non-acetone nail polish remover these steps will take a little longer. Either way both ways should work. It just takes a little time but it will come off.

Also be careful if you have little cuts or something on your fingers. The nail polish will make it sting and that’s no fun. That’s it!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope this helps next time you have glittery nails! Don’t forget to follow and subscribe to keep up with my latest posts!
