Apple Cider Vinegar

Hey everyone.

I wanted to talk a little bit about the benefits of apple cider vinegar. I’ve been using it for a few months now and have noticed a change in how I feel. First let me just say I hate this stuff. The taste is horrible! You can drink it straight, which I refuse to do since its even horrible when mixed with something. If you can manage to choke it down by itself that would be better for you. On the other hand this stuff is extremely good for you. That’s why I keep drinking it.

I started using it when I started the Trim Healthy Mama way of eating. They have a drink that you use it in but I do mine different. I use crystal light to make my drink but that’s not too healthy since it has aspartame in it. I just couldn’t drink it the way they want you to.

Some of the benefits are that:

  • It helps you feel fuller longer
  • Helps you to lose weight
  • Detoxes the body
  • Helps to clear up acne
  • It could help to lower high cholesterol and high blood pressure
  • Could help strengthen stomach acid

And so much more. I make a pitcher of the crystal light and then add everything that the THM drink has except for Stevia. All you really need is 2 tablespoons a day and you will start to see a change in a couple of weeks. I was really hooked on soda and since drinking that apple cider vinegar I don’t have cravings for soda anymore. You don’t want any kind of ACV (apple cider vinegar) though. You want to make sure it’s the “BRAGGS Organic apple cider vinegar”.

I really feel like this stuff works. After drinking it, I feel like I have more energy. I try to drink it throughout the day. If I can’t then I always try to get at least one glass of it. I highly recommend trying it for at least a couple of weeks. You will notice a difference in how you feel. Leave a comment and let me know how it’s helped you. Thanks for stopping by.

Benefits Of Walking

Hey everyone.

I wanted to talk about the benefits of walking. I’m not a runner at all so I always feel like getting in a good walk always makes me feel better. I’ve always struggled with my weight and on top of that didn’t like to exercise and sweat. When I did want to exercise I would just take our dog for a walk. So I did that for a while and found that I was starting to lose weight. That made me happy but once again my laziness won me over.

006

Now that Kyle and I are eating better, I have found that I have more energy and that makes me want to go hiking and walking and do lots more outdoor stuff. I still have my lazy moments but I have been finding that now, when I start to feel tired, that’s when I get up and do something. That helps a lot too.

013

These are some of the benefits I have found through research and through some personal experience:

  • Boosts Endorphins- easing stress, tension, anger, fatigue and confusion in ten minutes
  • Reduces glaucoma risk. (You should always protect your eyes when going outside)
  • Limits sickness by halving odds of catching a cold
  • Halves Alzheimer’s disease risk over 5 years
  • Improves heart health by increasing heart rate and circulation
  • Works arm and shoulder muscles
  • Engages ab muscles
  • Improves blood pressure by 5 points
  • Builds bone mass, reducing risk of Osteoporosis
  • Limits colon cancer by 31% for women
  • Strengthens legs, including quadriceps, hip flexors, and hamstrings
  • Improves balance, preventing falls
  • Burns more fat than jogging

I’m not sure about the last one but that’s what a lot of things have said when I was doing research. You also always want to make sure that even when walking you need to stay hydrated. I have found most of these to be true, especially relieving stress and it helps to clear your mind. I’m sure there are lots more benefits but these were the top ones that I found. So I hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by.

How To Be A Little Healthier

Hi guys. Today is Wellness Wednesday.

I want to talk about eating healthier and how easy it is to make small changes.  Me and my husband, Kyle, decided we needed  to make changes but everything we tried doing didn’t seem to really be working. We would start trying and then feel defeated and give up. I had gone to the doctor and got a little scared when I was told I was borderline pre diabetic. I was having pain in feet every time I stood up or when I woke up and got out of bed. I didn’t know that was a sign of being diabetic. I knew my triglyceride count was a little high and they just told me to kind of watch my carbs. That is really hard to do being that I LOVE my carbs. I absolutely love pasta and bread! And it doesn’t help that Kyle is Italian. On top of eating too many carbs I had a horrible addiction to soda. Mostly Pepsi and then Dr.Pepper. I’m talking first thing I drank in the morning was soda. It was really bad.

Then Kyle had his doctor appointment and found that he needed to be on blood pressure meds and that his triglycerides were high as well and was put on meds for that. He’s been on those for a couple of years now. We didn’t really give any serious thought to the way we were eating until we started trying to get pregnant. I was diagnosed with PCOS. (My next Wednesday post will be on PCOS)

So, we weren’t given a whole lot of information. We weren’t told that our eating habits played a part in anything and being that I am overweight I thought it was a little odd that my doctor wasn’t in the least bit concerned about that. I always read that if you are overweight that could lead to some fertility problems.

After that we wanted to get more serious about getting our weight under control. I heard that my mom had been losing a bunch of weight and found out that she was doing Trim Healthy Mama. I had heard about that before but thought that it was just another fad that wasn’t going to work for me but after hearing all the great things about it, I thought “why not?” So, I started asking questions and learning a little about it. There is a learning curve to it but once I got the hang of what works for me and Kyle it’s actually way easy.  We started in December and we have both lost about 20 pounds each. We probably would have lost more but we do “cheat” sometimes. Since changing the way we eat, I no longer have pain in my feet or sugar spikes, which I think is due to getting to eat small meals every 3 hours. I have lots more energy and actually want to get out and do more. We are waiting to hear back from Kyle’s doctor to see if he still needs his meds but we are hoping he doesn’t. We still have a long way to go but for the first time I feel confident that we can accomplish our goals.

It has helped that we are making it more about being healthy rather than the scale being a certain number. I’m down one size in my jeans and feel more comfortable in my clothes. There is a lot of information out there so if you are interested in trying Trim Healthy Mama you should check out their website www.trimhealthymama.com where you can buy their book and other things you might need to start. Then you can check out their Facebook page where lots of people post their recipes which helps give you ideas if you’re struggling with what to make. I looked up recipes on Pinterest too. It makes it easier too knowing that you get to still eat yummy stuff and be healthy but if you’re hesitant to dive right in, you can start small and just change out a couple of ingredients. Instead of using white rice use brown instead. Little things like that make a big difference. That’s what we did to start and it’s been going really well. We are just finding out what works for us. That’s a key thing to remember, what works for one person may not work for another. It’s all about catering to your body. Some people lose weight quicker than others and that’s ok. For us it’s about being healthy not weighing a certain amount. I really feel like this is the best way to start making better choices. I hope this gives you some inspiration to get on the right track. Remember that it takes time but push through it and don’t give up hope. You can do it!

Quick Tip Tuesday

Hey everyone. Today is Quick Tip Tuesday!

I just recently found this gem and tried it out for myself. You can use it when you have a cold, whether it’s the first signs of a cold or one that has been around for a couple of days, this tip will definitely help you feel better.

The Tip: Using 3% hydrogen peroxide in your ears!

I know it sounds a little weird and scary but trust me it works! A couple of years back I had gotten sick and tried everything to get rid of my cold but it wouldn’t go away and just got worse. I had a horrible cough and sore throat, stuffy nose, fever, you name it I had it. I finally went to the doctors and turned out my cold had turned into a bronchial infection! Yeah not fun. Thankfully with the right meds it cleared up in a short amount of time but ever since then when I get sick, I catch it quicker and it lasts longer than anyone else. It’s so annoying.

So one day I was on Pinterest looking for home remedies and I came across a blog that suggested using hydrogen peroxide.  You can click the link and it should bring you to her blog:

http://www.laurencrabtree.com/2013/11/prevent-and-cure-cold-with-hydrogen.html?m=1

So, when I got sick recently I remembered that blog post and decided to try it. I had my cold for about 2 days at the time. You have to make sure that the peroxide is 3% as that is the safest one to use. You can even add it to your toothpaste and it will help whiten your teeth!

001

What you will need:

3% hydrogen peroxide

Paper towel or wash rag

Medicine dropper or the cap to the bottle

Q-tips

And a timer

If you’re using a medicine dropper, fill it about ¼ of the way. If you’re using the cap to the bottle, fill it just under half of the cap. I don’t have a medicine dropper so I just used the cap. You basically just want to fill your ear. All you do is tilt your head to the side, fill your ear and then you can lay down on your side (that was easier for me) and start a timer for 5 minutes. If you are well into your cold then I would leave it in for 10 minutes. When the timer goes off, place paper towel or wash rag over your ear and tilt your head the opposite way to let the peroxide drain. You can use the q-tip to dry the inside of the ear a little but always be sure not to go too far. Then repeat on other ear. You want to do this about every couple of hours. I did this and the next day I was feeling much better. I’ve tried other medicines like Dayquil and Nyquil and Tylenol cold and cough and they would work at first but then stop. I’ve tried the peroxide way both times I’ve been sick so far this year and it has worked better than any other medicine. I have also tried this on my husband and it took his cold right away. We did it when he first got sick so I think that’s why it worked quicker on him than me.

A little side not: it does bubble and may cause some discomfort at first but as you do it the less it bubbles. My right ear had more bubble/popping sound than my left and by the time I started feeling better both ears had little to no popping. You can use this on your kids as well. They may not like it but it will make them feel better. If you’re scared to do the full 5 minutes on the kiddos then you can do it for 2-3 minutes or whatever you feel more comfortable with.

So, there it is. I hope this helped and gives you something to try the next time you’re sick. Feel free to leave a comment or if you have any questions I will do my best to answer. Don’t forget to sign up for more beauty, tips, and health posts!
